Mansfield, Texas
The library was the second building to be built on the city’s municipal campus site. The library, along with the activities center, defines the east edge of the master planned public lawn.
The interior of the library is organized along a linear clerestory that starts at the entrance of the library and terminates at the rear reading areas. The building itself is joined to the adjacent activities center by a shade structure and is juxtaposed to create a sheltered courtyard. Aluminum trellises provide shade along the full length of windows opening onto the courtyard.
Energy efficient, indirect, lighting over the stacks compliments the natural light and provides an outstanding quality of light for the library. Future growth has been anticipated and planned for in the design of the building. The building’s design, structure and systems were made to be easily added onto and expanded so that the library’s collection can be easily doubled.
The building was completed in early 2001.
