Cleburne, Texas
Magee Architects was commissioned to provide an adaptive re-use design for the four-story 1917 Cleburne High School building. The project involved extensive evaluation of court needs, testing of the sustainability of the building itself, master planning, community needs, and strict budgetary limits.
The justice center provides new offices and courtrooms for the district courts, county courts, district attorney, county attorney, district clerk, county clerk, and multiple support functions. Ample parking, adjacent to the facility, and ease of accessibility by county tax payers were major design considerations. The justice center’s proximity to the City of Cleburne’s central business district helps maintain the vitality of the downtown area.
The resulting design, provided by a large team of consultants and construction specialists, provided an innovative and adaptive re-use for the beloved 80 year old community landmark and was able to save the county $500,000 of the $13 million budget.
